Look carefully at the front covers of MOJO and RNR
magazines.
QUESTION: How far do MOJO and RNR use different media
language to create different connotations? (CONNOTATION meaning: an idea or
quality that a word makes you think about in addition to its meaning.)
Answer on your blog. This is a high-value question and
should take all lesson to answer. You can use the class blog search engine for
more examples of how to analyse music magazines.
In your answer you should have 2 paragraphs:
analyse the media language in MOJO and RNR magazine. 'Media
language' includes the placement of the main image, the type of photography,
lighting, colours, fonts, how busy or restrained the cover is, the layout (such
as alignment to the margins), how serious or playful
make judgements and draw conclusions about how far the media
language is used differently in both extracts to create different connotations.
Are there similarities in both covers? What sorts of audiences are they
targeting? You could think about MOJO's rock aesthetic of living loud and
dangerously compared to RNR's folk, rock, blues vibe.
The two magazine covers are very diffrent in colours, lay out, words and style of singers. RNR uses very neutral browns and is quite plain only sticking to one main colour. its layout is very together and calm. the facial expression on christy mores face is very welcoming and kind, as if he wants to be your freind. the qoutes are very calm and almost quiet seen here "these days its yoga camomile tea and three our fathers". The cover mount is very simple and peaceful. the magazine cover as a whole is straight forward and too the point, its not overally busy and tells you what you need and want to know and nothing more.
whereas Mojos cover mount of the foo fighters is very Bright with lots of diffrent colours like blues, reds and greens. Its layout is very busy and very loud with lots to focus on, The expression on dave grohl is very aggressive and harsh, it is not welcoming at all. the qoutes seem very rough as if hes been through alot for example "we've been to funerals, we've been to jail..." on the magazean this qoute is in capitals to show more meaning of the qoute. it also ends in elipses to show that they have through more than that. The cover mount is vey colourfull and intising with alot giong on. as a whole the magazine cover is very busy bright and loud highlighting the foo fighters style of music.
the covers side by side are very diffrent in colour, layout, qoutes and style. they contrast with each other as RNRS magazine cover is very calm with neutral colours and Mojos is bright, loud, busy and vibrant. the facial expressions of each artist are very different one is very calm and welcoming and the other is very angry and mean. both magazines are very diffrent and show the music style of each aritst through out the whole cover from colour to qoutes.
