LEGO MOVIE POSTER CAMPAIGN

PREP You all have a handout with the individual character posters and the ensemble poster.
Analyse how gender has been represented in The Lego Movie poster campaign.
Use the written handout to help you answer this exam question (10 marks).

In the lego movie poster campaign gender represented through the facial expressions and props. there are lot of male characters compared to female characters and the  two diffrent genders are represented in two diffrent ways.

in the poster emmet is represented as a very uncordinated and clumsey guy, he is not illistrated as the typical male hero and is very unlike the stereo type. he is not very masiciline, although he does try to be. Emmet is not presented as a everyday lead male and would usualy not be shown as a normal male lead in other films. we can see by the poster that emmmet is an unlikely hero as his facial expression tells us he is scared as he has wide eyes telling us he is shocked and not ready to fight. his open mouth tells us he could be screaming which is usualy not the stereotypical reaction of a hero. we can tell he is just a normal person as he has construction clothes on and is not potrayed has heroic.

lord buisness is represented as evil and angry, he is a character who is usualy associated with danger and evil. Gender in his case is represented as very mean and this make him have a very agressive masculinity. we can tell he is a villain due to his red helmet and sharp rim shaped like teeth. this gives the audience the idea he is dangerous. his facial expression tells us that he is angry and very ready to fight due to his snarled teeth and monobrow which could illistate granting or anger.

vitruvius fits the stereotype of being a  wise old man, who holds wisdom, this is illistrated through his beard and long white hair which tells us he has been around for along time, and must have picked up wisdom along the way. we can tell he is wise and very smart through his glowing eyes, which are very mystical as if you could stare into them forever.

wyldstyle another main character doesnt fit the ususal female stereotype as usualy female may be seen as the dansle in distress yet by her facial expression we can tell she is more ready for battle than emmet. she is a heroine and very brave but with a girly side which we can see through her makeup and pink and blue stripes in her hair, this tells us she is rebellious and wants to stand out. her smile tells us she isnt nervous but is ready for battle. this contrasts with the normal female  lead and is one of the only females with a reoccuring role as she is in multiple scenes.

the ensemble poster shows a huge contrast between all the characters, this gives us a stronger idea as to how the genders are represnted. we can see that emmet looks as if he is runnig away from the fight than towards it and wyldstyle is willing to fight and is very brave. we can see lord buisness standinf over everybody to show power and show his wickedness. vetruvius is looking very noble and he has a staff which also gives as an idea as to how powerful he is and how he is represented.

in conclusion i think gender is represented as very masciline in the males excluding emmet as it tells us not everybody is your stereo typical musclely male but he can still be represented as a hero in other ways. gender in females tells us that you dont have to be male to be a strong and brave hero.

LEGO REGULATION

Task 3: Go to the BBFC site and research age ratings. Why was The Lego Movie (2014) given a U rating? You need to click on the Ratings info

Go to the PEGI site and research what age ratings are about. Why is The Lego Movie video game classification 7+?

the lego movie was awarded a U as it uses very mild bad language such as the words "butt" and "darn". during the fight scenes No one is seen to get hurt and the fact that all the fighting involves animated toy figures means that the fantasy nature of the violence is very clear. throughout the lego movie some heads are blown off but this can be seen as funny to children instead of scary.

LEGO MOVIE TRAILER

Task 1: how does Emmet come across? How effective would this trailer be in promoting the film?

emmet comes across us a ordinary guy,but he is told he is the chosen one.he is pushed to reach for the hero inside himself. emmet is not your typical hero, hes not strong like batman, speedy like the flash but very clumsy.  he is not an assertive person and all he wants is to be liked, he doesnt want to stand out. he starts of ordinary but finds out... he can be extrondinary, he is not agile but he is fragile. he is treated by wild style as the special hes not the type to take charge and drive the motor bike but to be the passanger. emmet is the only hope he is supposed to be the savier, the hero but he has struggles along the way.

Task 2: Find out what The Lego Movie (2014) is about. As you read, think about why the film appeals to different types of audiences (both children and adult) and is family friendly.

the lego movie is about Emit the ordinary guy, finds himself in a new situation. he is told he is the special and he is written in the profecy to defeat the evil. the film apeals to diffrent audiences as it can  be comedic and funny for both adullts and children with mixed humor for all ages. it can also atract people as it sends the message of good over evil and that any body can be extrodinary and heroic, without being strong or brave.
