TABLETOP FILMING

Tabletop film opening: we film and start editing.

PREP Write up an account of what you did in the lesson. Start your post by copying the information from the PREP post (about the research that you did). Then describe your filming. Add a photo if you wish.

in our lesson on tuesday we filmed a film opening in a tabletop style, we started by setting up our table with lots of different things like a briefcase full of photos and artifacts, lots of articles and images and even some bloody money. but first we put a black cloth down where all our objects went on top. next we started the process of filming and practised the fiming method of going a long the table in landscape and zooming in on diffrent objects as we went along. once we had practised we started to film using some acting hands where one opened the brief case to make more of an effect when the images showed on camera inside and the other placed the bloody money on the table cloth and then blew out the lit candle, letting the smoke fog up the camera lens to fade out the clip    . this was all filmed in birds eye view and the filmer slowly went over the table going from one side to the  other and stopped on the important objects and zoomed in on them then carried on to the end of the table until the end. when we had finished the process of filming it was time to start editing. we uploaded the clip on to the mac and then put it on i movie where we removed the sound and added our own sound and then started adding in titles and credits.

FILM OPENING CONVENTIONS

PREP To prepare for tomorrow's practical work of filming an opening sequence, please watch the following two title sequences which are filmed in in a similar 'table top' style.

For each title sequence, write three sentences about how the conventions of film openings are used.
The title of your prep blog post is FILM OPENING CONVENTIONS
Copy /paste the lines above and add the two images below :
  • what titles and credits appear on screen?
  • how is the film's genre conveyed?
  • what use is made of sound?
  • what hooks the audience and makes us want to carry on watching?

in delicatessen the film genre conveyed is horror as straight away you see a man with a knife. the sound is first quite a creepy sound and then we here the acordian which is also quite creepy when acompanied by the titles and credits. the audience gets hooked when we see many strange, dusty and sometice broken objects and want to know where they come from. we also see many titles of the actors that apear in the show and the producers who helped make the show.

In to kill A Mocking bird we see a girl  with a crayon reveal the title of the sequence. the film genre is conveyed to be maybe horror or drama as we hear the girl and also see more objects. the sound is used to help back up the theames that may be shown through the title sequence. not only does the strange objects shown help us to be hooked as we do not know where they are from but also the sound as we hear a little  girl and want to know what role  she plays in the show and also what she is doing which makes us watch further.

CUFFS

PREP Look back at the bullet point questions and write down your own responses on your blog. Title of your post CUFFS.

  • Who do we start to empathise with?
In the first episode of cuffs we start to empathise for many characters but especially for Ryan as not only is a police officer but a single parent and its hard for him to jugle both, so when he finds his child slacking off outside of school with his friends and his son does not respect him its hard for him. He doesnt want to have to Shout and upset his son. this i find is very hard for not only him having to shout at his son as he loves his son and doesnt want have to be rude and hurtfull to him. its also very hard as he embarrssed his son infront of his freinds and also the fact he is infront of jake.

We also empathise for besons the rasists victim who is hurt and harrased by him because of the colour of his skin and religion. we empathise because he did not ask to be put in this position and was also ambushed without his parent being in the country so went through all of this alone without any comfort and care just him in the hospital by himself

THE AVENGERS: SOUND

PREP Watch the first 10 minutes (after the title sequence is over) of The Avengers on Clickview. Analyse how sound is used in the extract to create meaning. You can use any part of the opening scenes - both the opening scene at the seaside at Little Bazeley or the scene in Emma Peel's flat

  • first identify an example - use terminology such as diegetic sound, non-diegetic sound, dialogue.
  • then give the example - " Little Bazeley is constructed as a seaside village through realistic sound codes such as..."
  • "One example of how sound is used is when Steed makes conversation with Emma Peel..."
  • then explain what meaning is created - "In the exchange of dialogue between the fisherman and the undercover agent who arrives from the sea they talk about...... which creates suspicion and comedy because....."
  • "Steed's dialogue reveals his accent and shows that he is..." "What Steed says to Emma Peel suggests that he feels in charge because...." /  "Emma's comment about the coffee and cream show that..." / "Emma's throwaway comment about having just finished a scientific article shows that..."

At the beginging of the avengers epsisode we are greated by Little Bazeley which is constructed as a seaside village through realistic sound codes such as.The waves, wind and  the sound of seagulls. This helps us as the audience to really feel like we are on the seaside. In the exchange of dialogue between the fisherman and the undercover agent who arrives from the sea they talk about directions to little bazeley which creates suspicion and comedy because a man has just imurged from the water in a black bag and the fisherman has thought nothing of it.

The diffrence between the non diegetic and diegetic sounds at the start of the avengers episode is very noticable as there is very obvious music which creates the feel of a suspicious setting which you can tell is non diegetic and has been added in afterwards.the diegetic sounds such as the seagulls and waves is very easy to identify as diagetic as it fits with the scenary.
